Wellington Barn provided the perfect setting for Chloe and Will’s wonderful wedding celebration. From the moment I arrived, there was a real sense of excitement as family and friends gathered to celebrate their day. Chloe and Will are such a relaxed and fun-loving couple, making it an absolute pleasure to document every part of their wedding. Their day had been thoughtfully planned from start to finish, creating a relaxed atmosphere where everyone could simply enjoy themselves while I captured the genuine moments, laughter and emotion that naturally unfolded.

As the celebrations continued into the evening, a fantastic dj soon had everyone on the dance floor, creating plenty of memorable moments and a few hilarious dance moves along the way. It was another beautifully warm summer’s day, so we waited until the sun began to set before heading outside for a few final portraits. The golden evening light across the Wiltshire countryside produced some stunning natural sun flares and provided the perfect ending to an unforgettable day. Set amongst the rolling Wiltshire countryside near Calne, Wellington Barn is one of the county’s most stunning barn wedding venues. Surrounded by breathtaking views across the surrounding landscape, it offers a beautiful setting throughout every season. The sweeping valley provides a wonderful backdrop for relaxed couple portraits, while the contemporary oak-framed barn combines rustic character with modern elegance.

Inside, the impressive vaulted ceilings, exposed oak beams and large windows fill the barn with beautiful natural light, creating a welcoming atmosphere for both ceremonies and celebrations. Every part of the venue has been thoughtfully designed, allowing couples and their guests to relax and enjoy the day. The Wellington Barn team are always incredibly friendly and professional, helping every wedding run smoothly from beginning to end.

Why I Love Photographing Weddings at Wellington Barn

Having photographed weddings at Wellington Barn for well over ten years, I’ve come to know the venue extremely well. One of the things I enjoy most is the variety it offers throughout the day. Whether it’s capturing the excitement before the ceremony, the emotion during the speeches or the celebrations on the dance floor, every part of the venue provides beautiful opportunities for natural, documentary-style photography.

One of my favourite times of the day is during the evening, when the soft golden light begins to fall across the surrounding countryside. The views become even more spectacular, creating the perfect opportunity to spend a few relaxed minutes with the couple while producing timeless photographs before they return to enjoy the evening celebrations with family and friends.

Best Places for Wedding Photos at Wellington Barn

One of the things I love most about photographing weddings at Wellington Barn is the variety of beautiful locations available throughout the day. From relaxed couple portraits to family group photographs and bridal party images, the venue offers stunning backdrops in every season.

On warm summer days, I usually capture just a few portraits of the newlyweds shortly after the ceremony before leaving them to enjoy time with their family and friends. Later in the day, when the light becomes softer and the temperature has cooled, we’ll head back outside for more relaxed portraits. Golden hour and sunset are often my favourite times to photograph couples, as the beautiful evening light creates a warm, natural glow and allows us to make the most of Wellington Barn’s spectacular countryside views.

One of the things I particularly enjoy about Wellington Barn is how the light changes throughout the day and across the seasons. Each side of the barn offers different photographic opportunities depending on the position of the sun, allowing me to choose the best locations for relaxed, natural photographs whatever the time of year.

During the summer months, the wildflower meadow behind the barn provides a beautiful setting for relaxed portraits as couples enjoy a quiet stroll together. In autumn and winter, the surrounding hills and open countryside take on a completely different character, creating clean lines, rich textures and dramatic landscapes that are equally stunning.

There are plenty of other favourite locations too, including the entrance road leading to the barn, the tree-lined pathway, the wooden cabins and the courtyard at the front of the venue. Each offers its own unique backdrop for couple portraits, bridal party photographs and family groups, ensuring every wedding gallery reflects both the beauty of Wellington Barn and the changing seasons.

Planning Your Wedding at Wellington Barn

Planning a wedding at Wellington Barn is an exciting experience, so here are a few tips to help you make the most of your day.

Golden Hour Portraits

If the weather is kind, I always recommend setting aside around 15–20 minutes for sunset portraits. Because of the hills behind Wellington Barn, the best time is usually around half an hour before the sun sets, when the light becomes softer and more flattering. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to step away from the celebrations for a few quiet moments together before returning to enjoy the evening with your family and friends.

Family Group Photographs

To keep the day running smoothly, I recommend photographing the larger family groups before everyone is invited into the wedding breakfast. Guests are already together, making the photographs quicker, more relaxed and easier to organise, while ensuring everyone can enjoy the celebrations without unnecessary delays.

Confetti Photographs

Confetti photographs work best immediately after the ceremony while everyone is gathered together and the excitement is still building. Weather permitting, my favourite locations are the tree-lined pathway or the open area behind the barn, where there’s plenty of space for your guests and a beautiful countryside backdrop.

Wet Weather

A little rain should never spoil your wedding photographs. Wellington Barn offers excellent indoor locations, and if you’re happy to venture outside for a few minutes, a pair of wedding wellies or comfortable trainers can be invaluable. I also recommend bringing a white, cream or transparent umbrella, which photographs beautifully while keeping the focus firmly on you. Some of my favourite wedding photographs have been taken in unexpected weather, so don’t worry if the forecast isn’t perfect.

Timings

Every wedding is different, so I always help my couples plan a photography timeline that fits naturally around the day. During our consultation we’ll discuss the best times for group photographs, couple portraits and sunset images, ensuring everything flows smoothly while allowing you to spend as much time as possible with your guests.

Getting Ready & Guest Accommodation

Wellington Barn offers excellent on-site facilities for both wedding preparations and overnight stays. The bridal preparation suite within the barn provides a relaxed space to get ready, while the Meadow Suite, Texel and Herdwick Huts, luxury Shepherd’s Huts, glamping accommodation, Hyggee House and nearby Blacklands Mill House provide a range of comfortable accommodation options for you, your wedding party and your guests.

Enjoy Your Day

One of the best pieces of advice I can give is to simply enjoy every moment. Your wedding day will pass incredibly quickly, so try not to worry if everything doesn’t run exactly to plan. Some of the most memorable photographs are often captured during the spontaneous moments that no one could have anticipated. Relax, spend time with the people who mean the most to you, and trust your suppliers to take care of the rest.

Trust the Schedule – But Be Flexible

While it’s always helpful to have a well-planned timeline, a little flexibility can make all the difference. Weddings rarely run exactly to schedule, and that’s completely normal. Allowing a little breathing space helps everyone stay relaxed and adapt naturally if plans or the weather change. A flexible approach almost always results in a more enjoyable day and more natural photographs.
