Ridgeway Barns Wedding Photography – Cara & Ale’s Beautiful Wiltshire Wedding
A selection of photographs from Cara and Ale’s beautiful wedding at Ridgeway Barns.
Ridgeway Barns provided the perfect backdrop for Cara and Ale’s wonderful summer wedding. From the moment I arrived, there was a real sense of excitement as family and friends gathered to celebrate their day. Cara and Ale are such a relaxed and fun-loving couple, making it an absolute pleasure to document every part of their wedding. Their celebration was filled with genuine laughter, heartfelt emotion and so many natural moments that unfolded beautifully throughout the day.
As the afternoon turned into evening, guests enjoyed drinks in the sunshine while the beautiful countryside surrounding Ridgeway Barns provided endless opportunities for relaxed documentary photography. Later, we made the most of the soft evening light for a few quiet portraits together before they returned to celebrate with their family and friends. It was a wonderful day from beginning to end, and I’d like to thank Cara and Ale for inviting me to be part of such a special occasion.
Ridgeway Barns – A Beautiful Countryside Wedding Venue
Nestled in the Wiltshire countryside near the North Wessex Downs, Ridgeway Barns is a beautiful wedding venue that perfectly combines rustic charm with modern elegance. The beautifully restored barns, open countryside and peaceful surroundings create a relaxed atmosphere that allows couples and their guests to enjoy every moment of their wedding day.
Inside, the light and airy barns provide a wonderful setting for ceremonies and celebrations, while the surrounding gardens, woodland, and rolling hills offer a fantastic variety of locations for natural wedding photography throughout the year. Whether you’re planning a spring, summer, autumn or winter wedding, Ridgeway Barns provides beautiful scenery in every season.
Why I Love Photographing Weddings at Ridgeway Barns
One of the things I enjoy most about Ridgeway Barns is the variety it offers throughout the day. The venue has a wonderfully relaxed and cosy feel, allowing couples to enjoy their wedding without feeling rushed, while the beautiful grounds provide countless opportunities for natural photographs as the day unfolds.
From the excitement before the ceremony to the laughter during the speeches and the celebrations on the dance floor, every part of the venue lends itself perfectly to documentary wedding photography. As the evening approaches, the surrounding countryside often provides beautiful light for relaxed portraits before couples return to enjoy the rest of their celebrations.
Best Places for Wedding Photos at Ridgeway Barns
Ridgeway Barns offers a wonderful variety of locations for couple portraits, family photographs and bridal party images throughout the day. The landscaped gardens, woodland, and surrounding countryside all provide beautiful backdrops, allowing every wedding gallery to reflect the character of the venue as well as the changing seasons.
The open fields and rolling hills are a particularly beautiful backdrop during the day and especially early evening, when the softer light creates the perfect conditions for relaxed portraits. The tree lined path to the right of the house is also beautiful offering up a unique kind of soft light and romantic setting for couples.
For family group photos and bridal party, the front of the main house and fields are great locations. The largest group photos can be shot out of the top windows of the house and capturing the bridal party having fun in the fields is a particular favourite. Throughout the year, the changing landscape offers something different, from fresh spring colours and vibrant summer fields to the rich tones of autumn and the crisp simplicity of winter.
Planning Your Wedding at Ridgeway Barns
Planning a wedding at Ridgeway Barns is an exciting experience, so here are a few tips to help you make the most of your day.
Golden Hour Portraits
I recommend setting aside around 15–20 minutes for sunset portraits. The fields and rolling Hills are particularly beautiful as the evening light softens, creating relaxed, natural photographs while giving you both a few quiet moments together.
Family Group Photographs
The larger family groups are usually best photographed before everyone is invited into the wedding breakfast. This keeps everything running smoothly and means your guests can relax and enjoy the celebrations.
Confetti Photographs
Confetti photographs work best immediately after the ceremony while everyone is together. Coming up the Isle from the outside ceremony area, the gardens and courtyard provide plenty of space and make a beautiful backdrop for colourful, natural photographs.
Wet Weather
Rain should never spoil your wedding photographs. Ridgeway Barns has lovely indoor spaces, and if you’re happy to step outside for a few minutes, a white, cream or transparent umbrella photographs beautifully. The canopied wooded area and path is relatively sheltered and would make a romantic setting for a rainy day. There is often moments throughout the day when the rain will cease which can be taken advantage of. Every season and every type of weather creates its own unique atmosphere.
Timings
Every wedding is different, so during our consultation we’ll plan a photography timeline that works naturally around your day. This ensures you have plenty of time for family photographs, relaxed couple portraits and, if the weather allows, beautiful evening photographs.
Getting Ready & Guest Accommodation
Ridgeway Barns provides a range of accommodation options, making it easy for couples, family and guests to stay close to the celebrations. The farmhouse offers six comfortable bedrooms on the first floor, including three spacious king-size en-suite rooms, a large twin room, a smaller twin room and a single room.
Couples seeking extra privacy can choose from two self-contained annexes: The Old Stables honeymoon suite and The Pumphouse. During the warmer months from May to September, Shepherd’s Rest provides additional accommodation for two guests.
Having everyone nearby creates a relaxed wedding morning and allows celebrations to continue without travelling between locations. Planning accommodation in advance is a great way to make the whole wedding experience as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.
Enjoy Your Day
The best advice I can offer is to enjoy every moment. Your wedding day will pass incredibly quickly, so don’t worry if everything doesn’t happen exactly to plan. Some of the most memorable photographs are often the moments no one expected.
Trust the Schedule – But Be Flexible
A little flexibility throughout the day helps everyone stay relaxed and adapt naturally if plans or the weather change.
