Chalk Barn Wedding Photography – Hannah & Jamie’s Relaxed Wiltshire Wedding

A selection of photographs from Hannah and Jamie’s beautiful wedding at Chalk Barn in Wiltshire.

Chalk Barn provided the perfect setting for Hannah and Jamie’s relaxed and joyful wedding celebration. From the moment I arrived, there was a wonderful sense of excitement as family and friends gathered together to celebrate their special day.

Hannah and Jamie are such a fun-loving couple, making it a pleasure to document the genuine moments, laughter and emotion that naturally unfolded throughout their wedding. Their day had been thoughtfully planned, creating a relaxed atmosphere where everyone could enjoy themselves while I captured the moments that mattered most.

From the anticipation of the morning preparations through to the evening celebrations, every part of the day reflected their personalities. The rustic charm of Chalk Barn, combined with the beautiful Wiltshire countryside surroundings, provided a wonderful backdrop for natural and timeless wedding photography.

As the celebrations continued into the evening, the dance floor soon came alive with plenty of laughter, energy and unforgettable moments. Later, Hannah and Jamie celebrated with their first dance, creating one of the highlights of the day as they laughed, spun around and enjoyed the moment together.

A huge thank you to Hannah and Jamie for inviting me to capture such a wonderful celebration.

Capturing Natural Wedding Moments at Chalk Barn

Every wedding venue has its own character, and barn weddings offer a wonderful opportunity to capture celebrations in a natural and authentic way.

My approach to wedding photography is documentary-led, focusing on the genuine moments, emotions and interactions that happen throughout the day. Rather than creating a series of staged photographs, I prefer to allow couples and their guests to relax and enjoy themselves while I quietly document the story as it unfolds.

Barn venues such as Chalk Barn provide a fantastic environment for this style of photography. The relaxed atmosphere encourages guests to spend time together naturally, creating opportunities for photographs filled with laughter, connection and personality.

From the excitement of getting ready, through to the emotion of the ceremony, speeches and evening celebrations, every part of the day provides opportunities to capture meaningful moments that couples can look back on for years to come.

Best Places for Wedding Photos at Chalk Barn

One of the things I love about countryside wedding venues is the variety of photographic opportunities they offer throughout the day. From relaxed couple portraits to family photographs and natural moments with guests, the surroundings provide a beautiful backdrop in every season.

Shortly after the ceremony, I usually recommend taking a few minutes together as newlyweds for some relaxed portraits. This gives couples a chance to step away from the celebrations briefly, enjoy the moment and create some beautiful photographs without feeling like they are away from their guests for too long. I photographed Hannah and Jamie walking along the old road that leads up to the venue which added some really fun natural moments captured as they strolled.

Later in the day, when the light becomes softer, we can take advantage of the beautiful evening atmosphere. Golden hour is often one of my favourite times to photograph couples, as the warm natural light creates a beautiful glow and adds a timeless quality to the images. With the beautiful Rolling hills as the backdrop in the distance, I photographed Hannah and Jamie as the Sun started to come down which added a romantic setting. A little later, we grabbed a moment as the evening sky turned pink with a dramatic cloud formation resulting in a beautiful portrait of the couple embracing.

Planning Your Wedding at Chalk Barn

Planning a wedding at Chalk Barn is an exciting experience, so here are a few tips to help you make the most of your day.

Golden Hour Portraits

If the weather is kind, I always recommend setting aside around 15–20 minutes for sunset portraits. This is often one of the most enjoyable parts of the day, as it gives couples a chance to step away from the celebrations and spend a few quiet moments together.

The softer evening light creates a beautiful natural glow, and countryside venues such as Chalk Barn provide a wonderful backdrop for relaxed and romantic photographs. These portraits never need to feel staged — a simple walk together, a conversation or a few moments enjoying the surroundings can create some of the most memorable images.

Family Group Photographs

Family photographs are an important part of any wedding day, but they don’t need to take over your celebrations. The best time to take these are usually before the wedding breakfast.

I recommend keeping group photographs organised and relaxed, with a carefully planned list of the combinations that matter most to you. Having a family member or friend help gather guests can also make the process quicker and smoother.

Whenever possible, I like to photograph larger groups not too long after the ceremony when everyone is already together, allowing you to return quickly to enjoying your guests and the celebrations.

Confetti Photographs

Confetti photographs are always a wonderful moment to capture because they combine excitement, laughter and genuine emotion.

The best time for confetti is usually immediately after the ceremony while everyone is gathered together and the excitement is still building. A good supply of confetti and plenty of enthusiastic guests will help create a fun and memorable photograph.

Weather permitting, the outdoor areas around Chalk Barn provide opportunities for beautiful confetti photographs with a relaxed countryside feel.

Wet Weather

A little rain should never spoil your wedding photographs. While everyone hopes for perfect weather, some of the most atmospheric wedding images can happen when the skies are less predictable.

Be prepared to step outside for a few minutes, as we can create wonderful photographs whatever the weather.

I always recommend bringing a clear, white or cream umbrella, which can look beautiful in photographs while keeping the focus on you. Comfortable shoes or wedding wellies can also be useful if the ground becomes muddy.

The most important thing is not to worry about the forecast. Relaxed couples create the best photographs, whatever the weather brings.

Timings

Every wedding day is unique, so I always recommend creating a photography timeline that feels natural rather than rushed.

During your consultation, we can discuss the important moments throughout your day, including preparations, group photographs, couple portraits and evening photographs.

Allowing a little breathing space between parts of the day helps everything feel relaxed and gives you more time to enjoy being with your family and friends.

Getting Ready & Guest Accommodation

The morning preparations are such an important part of your wedding story. The excitement, anticipation and small moments shared with your closest friends and family often create some of the most meaningful photographs of the day.

When choosing where to get ready, consider spaces with plenty of natural light and enough room for you and your wedding party to relax comfortably.

For guests travelling to your wedding at Chalk Barn, planning accommodation in advance is always recommended. Having nearby accommodation allows everyone to enjoy the celebrations fully and makes the whole experience more relaxed.

To make your wedding experience even more special, Chalk Barn offers a selection of comfortable accommodation options for newlyweds, along with nearby places for family and friends to stay.

Couples can enjoy a relaxed stay in the beautiful on-site accommodation, while additional properties and trusted local partners provide flexible options for guests who would like to remain close to the celebrations. Whether you are looking to extend your wedding experience before or after the big day, there are a variety of choices to suit different requirements.

Enjoy Your Day

One of the best pieces of advice I can give is to simply enjoy every moment.

Your wedding day will pass incredibly quickly, and the moments you remember most are often the unexpected ones — the laughter during speeches, a spontaneous dance, a hug from a loved one or a quiet moment together.

Try not to worry about small details once the day begins. You have planned carefully, and your suppliers are there to help everything run smoothly.

Relax, spend time with the people who mean the most to you, and allow yourselves to enjoy the experience.

Trust the Schedule – But Be Flexible

Having a well-planned schedule is important, but weddings rarely run exactly to time and that’s completely normal.

Allowing some flexibility means you can enjoy the day without feeling rushed if something takes slightly longer than expected. Sometimes the best photographs happen because the schedule changes slightly.

A relaxed approach allows everyone to stay calm, enjoy the celebrations and create genuine memories that are reflected naturally in your photographs.
